LIGHT SEEDS

Light Seeds – ‘pulsating evanescence and the energy of seeds’ – is a site-specific multimedia artwork with elements of both sculpture, and ambient installation, created by artist Nino Alfieri in collaboration with the musical composer Corrado Saija for the exhibition Terra, Aria, Acqua, Fuoco – alchimia del pane (‘Earth, Air, Water, Fire – the Alchemy of Bread’). Alfieri found inspiration in fossils, amygdalae, ancient plough shares and organic matrix shapes.
In the exhibition these become ‘primary seeds’ of different shapes and sizes in baked and unbaked clay, laid out at floor level. A programmed data card causes the seeds to emit light in a cycle of varying intensity, with pulsating evanescence, accompanied by sounds specially composed to evoke the seeds’ potential for opening. The forms presented, whether tangible – albeit sublimated – or conceived purely as energy in light or sound, bring before us the beauty of nature and its immense vitality, by which we are nourished.
